Sometimes the lift is just a few feet from a truck to the ground, while other times it may involve raising items high overhead. When you have something heavy that you need to move, hiring a crane rental service to lift and place an item is an excellent option. The load weight, lift height, and the amount of space the operator has to work within can all play a role in which crane the rental service sends to your job site.
Crane rental services typically include the machine, an operator, and sometimes a rigger that will come to the job site or lift location and set up the crane, rig the load under the boom, and make the lift for you. If the lift requires the operator to raise a load overhead to a location they can not see, it can be much harder, and the service may send a spotter with the crane rental.
A lift that is extremely high may mean using a crane that is too large to drive to the site, and the machine may need assembly when it arrives. In these cases, a smaller crane is used to assemble the larger one, and the process can take some time. This can cause the crane lift to extend over several days. Determining how large the crane needs to be to do the job is determined by the crane rental service, and often they will visit the site before the job to ensure they can work with the space.
Site Access
Any crane coming into a job site will need space to maneuver and set up in the optimal location for the job. If the crane can not get to the job, the crane rental service may not be able to help you move your items.
When considering a crane rental, it is vital to determine how much space is necessary to get the machine in and out. It is also a good idea to have an area that is flat for the crane to set up on, but most cranes use a set of outriggers to support the machine, so if the ground is solid, they can adjust the jacks to level the machine some.
The crane operator has the final say on everything once the machine arrives on the job site, so if there is a problem, it will be up to them to decide if they can make the lift safely or if there are things that you need to deal with first. Coordinating with the crane rental services early to ensure they can make that lift when the day arrives is often your best option.
